The Catholic church in Spain has appealed to the taxpaying public to donate a percentage of their taxes to the church.
However, the 'donation' is does not come out of the tax payers pocket, nor does it benefit them in terms of changing the amount of taxes incurred in any way. Over the last 5 years the government of Spain has allowed the taxpayer to have the option of deciding for themselves whether or not to allow a portion of their taxes to be paid to the church. This is decided by means of a tick-box being shown on the income tax declaration which, when checked, allows a percentage to be paid by the government to the church as a means of funding their charitable works.
