Earlier today Spain's la Caixa won a Global Banking Innovation Award for being the 'world's most innovative bank', sponsored by the Bank Administration Institute. The bank was also nominated in the 'innovative services' category for its new 'Línea Abierta' online banking platform.
The Bank was declared winner out of over 200 banks from 40 countries,due to continued innovation in retail banking services. Isidro Fainé, chairman of la Caixa, commented "the award represents recognition of the bank's constant efforts to develop and incorporate technological developments, providing our customers with complete and high-quality services to help them better manage their finances".
la Caixa is currently one of the industry leaders in online banking through it's Línea Abierta division, who currently have over 6.8 million customers, together with mobile banking with over 2.1 million customers, and with over 10.4 Million electronic banking clients.
According to a study by AQMetrix la Caixa's Línea Abierta allows clients to perform over 900 different operations and is available in 19 languages.
La Caixa is also only Bank in the world to have its own applications store - CaixaMóvil Store, -with more than 40 different apps available, all free to download and customised for a number of operating systems.
The Bank is also developing ATMs now include sign language help videos for those with hearing disabilities and keyboards adapted for the visually impaired.
