Spain's 'los Indignados' protestors inspired a number of other groups in different countries around the world to hold similar protests over the course of this weekend. Over 70 larger towns and cities in Spain saw protestors take to the streets, notably Barcelona with an estimated 60'000 participants, Sevilla with 40'000 and Zaragoza with 30'000.
The main focus of the demonstration, however, was in the capital, where thousands took to the street in protest over the financial markets, the banks, recent cuts to public spending andausterity measures in addition to the worsening unemployment situation.
It is thought that as many as 900 cities on every continent has seen similar protests, with all except the demonstration in Rome passing peacefully. In the Italian capital things turned violent with skirmishes with the police after cars were set alight and banks were attacked.
