King Juan Carlos gave his annual Christmas address to the nation on Saturday, where combating high unemployment rates in the country was the main topic of his speech.
In the 12-minute televised address, the King went on to say how economic recovery requires more patience, efforts and sacrifices by citizens and public institutions.
He went on to call for further support for the unemployed and their families, and to find a solution to the economic crisis in Spain in collaboration with the rest of the European Union.
The King also spoke of Spain's importance as a member state due the country's close relationship with Latin America and many Middle Eastern and Arabic countries.
His speech also touched briefly on the subject of terrorism at home, where he urged ETA to demilitarize, dismantle its cells and to keep away fro nteh daily lives of Spaniards.
King Juan Carlos voiced full support for the families of victims of ETA's terrorism.
