Spain's fourth mobile network operator MasMovil is set to finally launch its own TV service this summer with a view to competing with the popular convergent offers of its rivals Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange, reports local daily El Espanol.
Sources cited in the report indicate that the operator will be teaming up with Huawei to launch a neutral pay-TV service via an Android-based device provided to give customers access to content from Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime, Sky and others as well as digital terrestrial TV channels. Huawei won’t just provide the device but will also be MasMovil’s business partner for the venture, said the report.
Earlier this year MasMovil announced that it won’t be joining its rivals and applying price hikes in exchange for increased services but the operator has been left with no choice but to start offering a TV service for which it will be have to negotiate with beIN Sports and Telefonica if it wants to include domestic and international football competitions.
