Spain is to take part in the EU's program of testing of full body scanners at some national airports. The Minister for Development, José Blanco, has said they will be used on a ‘provisional and experimental basis' within the next six months, to see how passengers respond.
He made the statement to the EU Mixed Commission in Congress yesterday, but declined to say which airports would initially be used for testing.
The Minister said that he was concerned about safety rather than the discomfort to passengers, but his intention was to see if the two were compatible. He also mentioned that that initially the passengers use of the full body scanner would be optional.
