The location of Murcia's new Paramount Theme Park was announced as being Alhama de Murcia, over the weekend.
Although it is still to be formally confirmed, sources report that the 3.5 million sqm plot lying close to the Condado de Alhama Golf Resort is to be the new site. The investment group responsible for the project also has a second plot earmarked at nearby Fuente Alamo as a backup.
Both the Regional government and representatives have made light of media allegations that, Jesus Samper – the president of Real Murcia football club and one of the key negotiators involved in the project - is currently facing charges of corruption and is at the centre of a significant court battle and possible imprisonment as a result.
The location selected is owned by troubled Spanish developer Polaris World, which is now owned by a consortium of Spanish banks, and is also situated close to the international airport, which is currently under constrcution at nearby Corvera. It is also less than 30 minutes from Murcia city centre and the port of Cartagena. With an excellent motorway network, it seems to be the logical location for the theme park to be constructed.
