Spain's USCA Air Traffic Controllers Union, and AENA - the Airports Authority, failed to meet as planned on today as the union carried out its threat to boycott the talks regarding salaries and working conditions.
The Union has made claims that AENA is not abiding by the terms of the pre-agreement reached between the two sides on August 13, with regrds to the employment of new recruits. The union considers that the delay in the recruitment is just another example of the inefficiency of AENA.
AENA has countered this claim, calling it ‘absurd', and stating that it is the controllers who are not meeting the pre-agreement as absentee levels remain very high, and they are denying overtime.
The renewed dispute led to a number of delayed flights over the weekend, at Valencia and Alicante airports in particular.
