Expedia has reported that Q1 hotel reservations for the Costa del Sol are 25% up on the same period of 2012.
Continued political unrest in Egypt and Turkey has all had a positive effect on Spain's tourism industry, with the travel website showing how Andalusian package holidays are providing the majority of the growth, with destinations such as Malaga seeing increases of almost 48%
The report also reveals how the majority of visitors to the Costa del Sol chose to stay in 3 and 4 star hotels, and spend an average of 4 days on the coast. Those booking package holidays in 2013 were also staying around 50% longer than those booking a holiday directly with the Hotel.
Expedia's Director for the Spanish market, Carrie Davidson, commented that the reported increases now make the Costa del Sol the 3rd most popular destination in Spain, behind the Balearic and Canary Islands.
