The suggestion of suspending European grants to help force a resolution of the homes issue was made by Marta Andreasen MEP of UKIP at an EU Petitions Committee last week.
The petition, put forward by expat Maura Hillen on behalf of the victims of Spain's urban corruption, argued that planning abuse and urban corruption in Spain contravene two pillars of the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The alleged breach of EU law relating to the free movement of capital and the free movement of people, will now be studied by the EU Commission and considered for debate in Spanish parliament.
It is a small step in the right direction for Ms Hillen who, as president of protest group AUAN, spoke on behalf of the estimated one million victims of what one MEP referred to as Spain's "bandit" behaviour.
