The Minister of Public Works and Planning for the region of Murcia has commented how there is "nothing new to report" concerning the development of the Corvera Airport Project.
Antonio Sevilla was speaking to the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena where he went on to confirm that AENA will continue to operate San Javier Airport until the new Airport is fully operational, at which point the old airport would transfer operations and eventually close.
News from AENA over previous weeks - including a Tweet denying plans to transfer operations - had lead to speculation that the Spanish Airports Authority has no plans to close San Javier Airport .
The Minister went on to discuss the arrival of the AVE rail network to the region, where he mentioned how the lack of funding (300 Million euros !!) currently meant that many high-speed stretches of track would be unable to pass underground as originally planned, but that this may be achieved at a later date.
